About the workshop:

ENSIMISMADOS 2018 is the second edition of an international contemporary dance workshop under Jimmy Ortiz and Grei QuezAc’s management that will bring performing artists from all over the world to Costa Rica from December 3rd to 14th, in order to experience a hard training and movement research process with guest  dance teachers.

ENSIMISMADOS 2018 focuses on contemporary dancers; nevertheless, we encourage participation of people from any performing arts like theater, circus, and performance art that can get advantage of the various movement tools for their own field; and at the same time the diversity of performing artist population will be enriched.

Registration for 2018 edition will be opened from February up to October 2018 or until there are no spots left.

Contemporary dance

Mon 3- Fri 14

The structure and the goal of the workshop are creation and composition of movement. Horacio proposes a highly physical work that demands attention, interest and alert, rather than a certain technique level. The participants learn to relate and connect themselves instantly to the environment, and to develop playfulness and spontaneity in taking decisions, for immediate compositions full of meaning. His approach is based on his own intuition and varies and evolves with what the group offers. The basis of this work is the diversity of the personal movement and  the inner world of each participant, who will be working from the body and with images and emotions to discover new and surprising possibilities. The intention always lies in accessing the full expression and communication in the personal dance, not in terms of virtuosity but from the uniqueness as a being.

Creation lab (Playfullness, fiction and surprise)

Mon 3 - Fri 14

2 week long research process that intends to create movement from each dancer movement quality; going to and off the floor, body spirals, opposition and dancing movement at high speed.

This is a highly physical dance work that transforms movement and random combinations in to poetic narrative. I propose the playfulness of joviality, the surrealism of fiction and alert state of surprise as the 3 main principle in which I develop the movement lab.

Depth Movement

Mon 10- Fri 14

This is an intense and dense group dynamic class. It is about energy, about constantly challenging your limits. Understanding what defines you as a dancer and pushing those boundaries over and over again. Allowing the environment to influence your dancing skills, refining tools to create new movement qualities and new rhythms. Digging deeper inside the range of your own personal dance vocabulary, becoming anyone or anything.

Working with partnering, multi- directional micro- narrative movement to transforming as a whole group. Learning how to effectively be unpredictable, how to recycle energy, how to use the body as your primary tool

MULTIPARTNERING / INFINITE SYNAPSIS

Mon 3- Fri 7

This research is a combination of our particular practices -MINDCROSS and the Intuitive body -and our search for movement possibilities in situations of body interaction.  In the workshop we explore partnering elements, and we bring the same to be applied in trios, quartets, quintets, groups and masses. We come to the study of three basic actions to the work of body interaction: to follow, to resist, to transform.  These three ways of reacting to stimuli allow us to relate freely, and come upon possibilities for language and risk growth, and opens the path to study another element that is fundamental in this type of work, which is the understanding of roles. In this way, we play to break the pyramidal idea of the hierarchies in the work of partnering to stimulate the creation of new material that contains multiple dynamics and leads the participant to experiment with more risk at the same time as he/she develops in parallel safety and resolution of difficulties, so important in the prevention of injuries, common in this type of work.
